STOP #2. 8 Goodwin Rd. Italianate.
Built for General Samuel Chandler in 1846 this house is Lexington’s only example of high style Italianate Architecture...
Italianate architecture was loosely modeled after the villas of Italy. The proponents of this style preferred ornamentation to functionality.
This home has many of the features indicative of the Italianate style. The most prominent is the three-story campanile-style tower with balconies at the top level.
Others include the steeply pitched pyramidal roof, the three-part round-arch windows, and the hip-roof porch with arch-forming brackets that extend along one side.
There are a number of round arched windows used in a variety of places around the house.
The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
