This lonely headstone marks what is believed to be the resting place of a British soldier mortally wounded on the retreat from Concord.
The day after the battle, town doctor Joseph Fiske treated seven wounded Redcoats at Buckman tavern. This soldier may have been one of them. The men were left behind by the British column as it retreated back toward Boston.
Now return to the Eustis site and turn right. Proceed to the shorter obelisk that commemorates Captain John Parker.
